How to Choose the Right Size? Comprehensive Scrub Size Guide

The most common problem in online shopping is choosing the wrong size. This guide is a step-by-step measurement walkthrough that will help you get the right size the first time.
How to Take Measurements
Stand in your regular clothing or underwear while measuring. Hold the tape measure parallel to your body, touching but not squeezing. Ideally, have someone else take the measurement for you — when measuring yourself alone, the tape usually tilts and the result becomes misleading.
- Chest: Lower your arms to your sides. Pass the tape under your arms and measure at the fullest point of your chest.
- Waist: Measure at your natural waistline, usually 2–3 cm above the belly button.
- Hips: Measure at the fullest point of your hips.
- Inseam: Measure the distance from the crotch to the ankle.
- Shoulder width: Measure from one shoulder tip to the other, across the flattest point of the back — one of the most critical measurements for comfort in tops.
How Does Fabric Stretch Affect Size Selection?
Lycra/elastane fabrics sit closer to the body and offer stretch allowance; for these fabrics, choosing the size right in the middle of the measurement chart usually gives the right result. In classic woven (non-stretch) fabrics, since there is no stretch allowance, sizing up provides a more comfortable fit. You can estimate the stretch ratio by checking the fabric composition on the product page (for example, 72% Polyester / 25% Viscose / 3% Lycra).
Recommendations by Body Type
Standard size charts may not fit everyone in the same proportion. If your shoulder-to-hip ratio differs (for example, narrow shoulders with wide hips, or vice versa), don't hesitate to order the top and bottom in different sizes — the top and bottom of sets can usually be purchased separately. For tall users, inseam measurement is particularly important; a short inseam can cause trousers to visibly sit above the ankle.
Choosing During Pregnancy and Body Changes
For healthcare professionals who continue working during pregnancy, models with a stretchy elastic waistband and a high lycra content are recommended. During this period, choosing one size up and letting the stretch fabric adapt to your body is a more economical solution than frequently buying new clothes.
Why Do Size Charts Vary from Brand to Brand?
The same "M" label can correspond to different measurements across different brands, because each brand uses its own pattern blocks and target audience profile. Some brands build their patterns around a slim fit, others around a relaxed/regular fit. For this reason, when shopping from a new brand, the safest approach is not to assume "my usual size" but to compare against that brand's own centimetre chart. At Qule, since we use three different cutting philosophies — Zeyra slim fit, Atlas unisex standard fit, and Moon relaxed/flowing fit — the feel of the same size label can change when you switch between series.
How Does Our Size Finder Tool Work?
Qule's online size finder compares the chest, waist, and hip measurements you enter against the real production and cutting data of each series (Zeyra, Moon, Atlas). A different calculation logic is applied depending on the piece you want to buy (Set, Top Only, Bottom Only, or Lab Coat); for example, when selecting a Set, chest, waist, and hip are evaluated together to suggest a single size, because our set products are sold in a single size option. On the results screen, you can also see the actual centimetre equivalent of your recommended size.
Common Technical Mistakes When Measuring
Wrapping the tape too tightly around the body gives a result 2-3 cm smaller than your actual size; there should be enough slack for a finger to fit between the tape and your skin. Similarly, holding the tape at an angle (particularly for the waist measurement, rising from back to front) also gives a misleading result; it's important to check from the side in a mirror to confirm the tape is parallel to the ground. There can also be a slight difference between measurements taken in the morning and evening; taking measurements in the middle of the day, in a relaxed moment, gives the most consistent result.
Common Sizing Mistakes
- Relying only on your size from an old brand without checking the size chart — patterns vary from brand to brand.
- Looking only at the waist measurement and ignoring the hip measurement.
- Measuring too tightly and ending up choosing a smaller size than you actually are.
- Taking the measurement over clothing — a measurement taken over a thick sweater or coat comes out a few centimetres larger.
Qule Size Chart
Once you've taken your measurements, you can determine your exact size on our Size Guide page. If you're between two sizes, we recommend choosing the smaller size for tops and the larger size for trousers.
Exchange and Return Process
Don't worry if the size turns out to be wrong: at Qule you have the right to a free return within 14 days. You can exchange until you find the right size; we recommend not removing the tags and keeping the original packaging while trying on the product.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do scrubs shrink in the wash? Qule fabrics undergo a pre-wash process; a maximum of 2% shrinkage is expected after the first wash.
How are unisex models cut? Unisex models have a straight cut. For women's sizing, we recommend browsing our women's collection.
Which size should I choose if I'm between two sizes? If freedom of movement is your priority, choose the smaller size; if you want a relaxed/loose fit, choose the larger size — neither choice is wrong, it depends on personal preference.
What should I do if I choose the wrong size? You can use your free return/exchange right within 14 days; see our return policy for details.
How accurate is your size finder tool? Our size finder compares your chest, waist, and hip measurements against our real production data; when measured correctly, it gives an accurate result for most users, though for those between two sizes personal preference always has the final say.
What should I prepare before using the size finder? Have a tape measure ready and, ideally, someone to help you; measuring in thin/plain clothing or underwear gives the most accurate result.
What should I do if my body measurements change over time? During periods such as weight change, seasonal shifts, or pregnancy, it's recommended to retake your measurements periodically and use the size finder again with your updated measurements on your next purchase.
